Following their successful collaboration on OIO Records, label boss Frederick Alonso and vocalist Wendy Demey team up again with ‘About You’, backed with extra interpretations by Jakhira, Avenue6 and Alonso himself. The Original Mix starts off gently with an ethereal harp melody, rolling synth bass and Wendy’s catchy vocals, which are met with deep toms and subtle percussion before the track is elated further with the introduction of soaring pads, used to great climactic effect. Complimenting the track with a groovier edge we find Jakhira on remix duty. Looping the harp to its core and with the help of additional rhodes, stabs, strings and tribal percussion, it adds a touch of soul and packs more punch simultaneously. Avenue6 takes us into the realms of crossover potential, his no-nonsense approach transforms the original harp melody into a lead synth line with a deep rolling bassline, snare rolls and big white noise effects. First of Alonso’s two extra versions is the Underground Mix. Beefing up the phatness to eleven with bass hooks and arpeggios replacing the original’s floaty harp, this is another one fit for the dancefloor. There’s also the stripped down Dub Edit, where we find the harp cut short and a deep sub bass dominates over the sporadically used vocal and an intriguing synth hook.
